Worldwide, researchers, governments, companies and institutions are working on innovative measures, which are necessary to ward off the changing climate. The Global Center on Adaptation, located in Groningen and Rotterdam, acts as a solutions broker, bringing all relevant stakeholders together that can address the obstacles slowing down adaptation action. The Global Center will accelerate the global climate adaptation tasks.<\/p>

The symposium \u2018Climate Adaptation in Northern Netherland\u2019 will provide you with an insight into the knowledge and experiences that live in the Northern Netherlands. Experts from the Rijksuniversiteit Groningen, the Hanze University of Applied Sciences, Tauw, Wetsus, the municipality of Groningen and more will show you on which climate issues they are currently working, and how they contribute to a climate-proof society.<\/p>

Climate change and human actions are closely related. What influence does our behavior have on our living environment? What behavioral changes are needed to combat climate change? In what way can we manage human behavior in such a way that it contributes to a climate-proof environment? Climate change brings particular challenges to urban areas. Due to the dense construction and the large amount of built-up area, the effects of climate change in urban spaces are more pronounced than in the outlying area. Cities warm up faster and cool down more slowly; In addition, there is more water flooding. Space is scarce, as a result of which different interests need to be united on a relatively small area. This session will go deeper into the challenges that climate change brings to the city.<\/p>

Agriculture occupies an important place in our economy and society. However, this sector is also experiencing the effects of climate change. Drought and heavy precipitation affect the growth and production of crops and the welfare of livestock. Soil salinization, species crowding and plant diseases pose a threat to the agricultural area. How does the agricultural sector deal with these changes? This session will go deeper into this issue.<\/p>

Climate change is a direct threat to our health. Because of higher temperatures and new local climates, pathogens are getting new opportunities all over the world. In cities this problem is even more direct, because cities retain heat and many people live together. Without measures, heat alone makes parts of cities unviable, especially for the elderly. The speakers of this theme will take you into the various effects that climate change has on our health and how we can arm ourselves against this.<\/p>
