There is a strong global interest in our knowledge and experience in water management. The Netherlands is seen as the safest delta in the world. One of the reasons for this is our separate authority for water management: the district water board. The valuable knowledge and experience with respect to water management specific to the Northern Netherlands is shared and disseminated through European and global networks. Via the ‘Dutch Water Authorities’, the district water boards of the Northern Netherlands contribute to improving knowledge in the field of water in countries such as Mozambique, Bangladesh, Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Nicaragua, Romania, Vietnam and South Africa.
The collaboration with RENOC in Nicaragua is an example of this. The collaboration is intended to strengthen the storage capacity of Nicaragua’s decentralised water management. The Noorderzijlvest district water board actively contributes to this collaboration.
