Wadden Island flooding
Anticipating disaster scenarios increases regions’ awareness
The Wadden Islands, the Ministry of Infrastructure and the Environment and Safety Region Friesland collaborated to explore scenarios involving flooding risks and the reactions of residents and tourists during and after a flood. The ‘Wadden Island flooding’ scenario, a simulation of a huge flood on a fictitious Wadden island, makes parties aware of a flood situation and the necessity of well-thought-out risk management. The case is based on realistic information from numerous (research) documents and conversations with experienced practitioners, scientists and stakeholders.
